Wild Island Nature

Hunting Island State Park and Saint Phillips Island

The beauty and history of our changing islands

Hunting Island State Park is a barrier island in South Carolina. It has a dramatic landscape of boneyards, beaches and maritime forests. The island is home to an abundance of creatures-among them, birds, alligators and loggerhead sea turtles to name a few. It is also known to house a lighthouse built in 1875 with giant iron plates due to having to be moved from effects of erosion.

Saint Phillips Island, it's "sister" island, accessible only by watercraft, is one of six National Natural Landmarks in South Carolina.
