Rose Hill

Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site was the mid-1800's home of South Carolina's Secessionist-Gov. Henry Gist. This once 200-acfre cotton plantation was home to the Gist family as well as the nearly 200 enslaved individuals who were forced to work the land and maintain the Gists' household.

After the Civil War, tenant farmers continued to farm the land. In the late 1930's, the forest service planted Sumter National Forest which now surrounds this 44-acre South Carolina State Park.
